Terms of use
Early-access terms for estate professionals. Short version: this is experimental practice support, not legal advice; you stay the professional in charge; and your data stays in Canada.
Effective: September 2026 · Governing law: Ontario, Canada
1. Agreement
By using decessit.ca or joining the early-access program, you accept these terms. If anything here and any separate pilot agreement conflict, the pilot agreement wins for the pilot.
2. What Decessit is (and isn't)
Decessit is practice support software for licensed professionals who administer estates — certified estate advisors, lawyers, tax professionals and estate trustees. It is not legal advice, it is not a law firm, and it creates no lawyer-client relationship in either direction. It is not a consumer service.
3. Early access status
Early access is experimental. Features may change, be delayed or be removed; service is best-effort with no availability guarantee; data in the product may be reset. In exchange you get early functionality, and for the pilot service-exchange, free extraction of one closed estate file — you keep the inventory, we keep the learning.
4. License and eligibility
Access is personal, non-transferable and revocable, for licensed professionals managing their own client matters. The license covers your use only; you may not resell access, build a competing service on it, or use it for consumer (non-professional) purposes.
5. Your responsibilities
You remain the professional responsible for every file: you review, edit and send every letter and form; you decide what to file; you confirm client consents before uploading third-party data; and complex or contested estates go to specialist counsel — Decessit's scope is standard estates, and it will tell you when it's out of it.
6. Content and IP
The service, brand, software and generated materials belong to Decessit. What you put in remains yours. We do not train models on your data without explicit, separate opt-in consent (de-identified, and documented at Privacy). Corrections you make during a pilot, used in de-identified form to improve extraction, are part of the agreed value exchange.
7. Liability
The service is provided "as-is", within the limits permitted by law. Decessit's liability for software faults is limited as set out in Ontario law; nothing here transfers or limits your professional obligations, insurance expectations, or duties to your clients.
8. Privacy
The Privacy and Cookies pages are part of these terms. They describe what we collect, where it's stored (Canada), and how you delete it.
9. Changes and termination
We may change these terms with reasonable notice, and either side may end an early-access arrangement at any time with written notice. On termination, your data is returned or deleted at your direction.
10. Contact
