Estate files contain the most sensitive documents a family owns: wills, SINs, account numbers, medical-adjacent facts. Decessit treats them like health data — because they are.

  • Data at rest in Canada. Application, database, object storage, queues — all in Canadian datacentres (Montreal, Toronto, Calgary). No estate data in US data centres. Ever.
  • De-identification first. Sensitive fields (SINs, account numbers, will contents) are classified highest-risk; any cross-border processing step happens only on de-identified fragments, with consent and a data-processing agreement.
  • You review everything. Decessit drafts and organizes; licensed professionals review, edit and send. Every change is versioned on an immutable audit trail.
  • Your file, your rules. Purpose-limited to estate administration; deleted on request with a receipt; no training on your data without explicit opt-in.

Who is Decessit for?
Licensed professionals who hold the client relationship: certified estate advisors (CICEA), estate lawyers in solo and small firms, tax CPAs, and estate trustees. Decessit is professional software — it sits behind the professional the way practice management sits behind lawyers. It is not a consumer DIY tool.
What is estate administration software?
Estate administration software organizes the work between the day of a death and final distribution: gathering documents, building a structured inventory of assets and liabilities, and coordinating every institution that must be notified. Decessit adds confidence-scored extraction (scan a folder, get an inventory) and a live coordination worklist with deadlines — the two things estate professionals tell us take the most hours. It is not court-filing or accounting software.
How does Decessit support Ontario estate trustee responsibilities?
The worklist operationalizes the Ontario duties: estate administration tax (EAT) assessment and filing, CRA clearance and T1 obligations, bank estate kits and freezes at each institution, insurer beneficiary forms, land registry matters, and notice obligations under the Estates Act. Each institution gets a playbook — the forms, deadlines, contacts and expected turnaround — with tracking and escalation. Complex or contested estates are clearly flagged: see a specialist.
How are CRA estate clearance applications handled?
Decessit drafts the clearance certificate application from the confirmed inventory — deceased's SIN, estate's tax obligations, and the required undertakings — and tracks the filing and response. CRA clearance is a gate before distribution, and the worklist treats it that way: it appears in order, with the right form and a deadline, so no estate distributes without it.
Where is my data stored?
In Canada. Application, database, object storage and queues run in Canadian datacentres — Montreal, Toronto, Calgary. Estate data does not sit in US data centres. Any cross-border processing step can only ever act on de-identified fragments, with consent and a data-processing agreement. All changes are versioned on an immutable audit trail, and files are deleted on request with a receipt.
Is Decessit legal advice?
No. Decessit is practice support for licensed professionals. Every letter, form and decision is reviewed, edited and sent by the professional — the licensed actor keeps control of the file. The scope is standard Ontario estates; anything complex or contested is routed to specialist counsel. Decessit does not prepare court-filing documents or replace a lawyer.
